CM releaser without hammer ( SIEG X2P )
« on: May 09, 2017, 01:25:48 PM »
Hi all !
I was really tired to hammer the drawbar to release the chuck or the collet holder for my X2P so I decided to try something read on an old model engineers workshop.
The idea is to make an extractor that scews on the spindle and has a bolt that push on the drawbar.
Unfortunally on my X2P there is no "free" thread to screw on so I decided to make a new nut for the mandrel, that has an external thread to screw on the exctractor body.

You can read about this modification here:

I would have liked to post it here but I'm not familiar with the image posting for this forum.

Let me know if you have problems.

That's a really good idea, I say that because I made one for my x2. however I went to the next step.
I made a new, longer drawbar and brazed a steel collar near the top of it so it came  inside the extractor body, then I made 2 brass thrust washers to go top and bottom of the collar. then I drilled out the top thread so the drawbar could poke out.

now when I tighten the drawbar the bottom thrust washer presses on top of the spindle and tightens whatever you are using and undoing the drawbar presses the top thrust washer against the top of the extractor body and releases the chuck or whatever.

so now the extractor body can stay there all the time.

hope this is of interest.

cheers
Roy.
I used to be confused, now I just don't know.

Roy, can you show some photos of it ?
I can't really understand, but I'm really interessed in it...

Thx

Here we go,

here it is installed, note the hex end of the drawbar poking out the top.

and here are the parts, dimensionally you need a few mil vertical movement of the drawbar for clearance when assembled.

hope this is clear enough, any questions, just shout.

Sorry if I'm going a bit off-topic here, but is that a inductive sensor attached in the first pic? If it is, what's the purpose you are using it for?
Kind regards

So, Roy, if I'm correct the extractor body is always on ( instead of the original nut), right ?

Hi
yes, it stays on, except when I have to change to a drawbar with a different thread  ::) , most tools have a metric thread but a few have imperial.

thats a problem I need to sort out.
but thats my problem, one you shouldn't have .
