As the title says- mostly 3D-printed, even the waxes for the brass investment castings (including the authentic Hicks propeller)... but with some simple traditional machining too.
Non-firing, but has electric drive for slow-running animation- have to show all the monkey-motion working!

These 8HP engines were widely used in San Francisco's fleet of small fishing boats known as Monterey Clippers. The design of those boats is carried over into the display stand. Actual Hicks drawings were used for all components; these can be found in the SF Maritime Historic Park research center.

Sound in the video is as-captured by the camera, but is generated by a sound player in the base, which in turn is playing a recording of an actual running Hicks.

Same engine as previously mentioned in the "Your Own Designs" forum.

Outstanding representation of the engine! The whole thing, engine, clutch and prop shaft would make a great I.C. engine project. Thanks for showing it. Are the drawings available through the Museum online or does one have to physically visit the Museum?

Wonderful looking engine!

How large is it?

Is the small wheel on the upper side of the flywheel how it is being driven, or is that a dynamo or something? I am not very familiar with that type of engine.

Thanks all.

Size- see the 6" diggie caliper in the opening shot.

The museum only has a sampling of the drawings scanned... you really need to spend a day there, having researched their finding aid beforehand.

The generator uses a friction drive- a rubber-tired wheel! And gravity.
