So, did anyone else buy anything at the show?  Today I bought some more tools I didn't need but had to have.
Yesterday I spent considerably more.  I have been thinking of a beam engine and unfortunately Maury from Lone Star was there and I bought a set of castings for the Gothic.
Probably won't start it for at least a year but the castings are in the barn so to speak.
We are off to the Henry Ford Museum tomorrow to take pictures of the full size one.

I "aged" the castings for a Little Brother I made for 35 years! And by "aged" I mean they sat untouched in a box under the bed.
In 35 years I will be near 100 so I'm thinking I should get started sooner rather than later.

I bought some tools that I actually need. Almost went up the castings path but sanity returned just in time. The insert tools are from Busch Machine Tools, look to be very well made.

I'm working on uploading some videos and photos of the show, soon.

The usual suspects

Art(ArtK), Tim(Tvoght), Gary(gldavison),Stan(sshire), Kirk(Kvom)

Kvom told me you can't have to many vises, so...
A 4" Wilton bullet made its way into the car.

Also got some NOS Grobet files for Oliver. First time I've seen a good selection of die filer files. Got some half-rounds in various radii and a thin knife-edge.

I told Stan you can't have too many vices, but he heard vises instead.

The Coventry and Comber engines I had running didn't get much interest from the crowd, but both stayed running almost the entire time, increasing both's lifetime run by about 10,000%.

Southwest Airlines has managed to misplace my suitcase with the purchases I made, so whether I'll actually get them depends on them finding the bag.  But I did buy 5 Kennametal carbide endmills, a set of 3" long parallels for use with the small vise, and a butane powered small torch to help with silver soldering small parts.   :(

Lots of nice builds on display, including many I hadn't seen previously.  Two highlights based on this forum were George's mini bailer and his pistol work in progress.

My suitcase has been found, so at least I won't need to make a new manifold.  Apparently its presence in the suitcase caused the xray to trigger "further screening".  Of course, you'd think that my being there 2 hours before takeoff would  have been enough time.  Should be delivered in a couple of hours.

Nice looking vise Stan! are you going to tear it down and give it a proper restoration? There should be a date stamped on the key  if you are interested in when it was made.

Frigging TSA took the little soldering torch I bought at the show.  It was in a new unopened box with no fuel, hardly a flight risk.  $68 down the tubes.

I've written to the TSA to complain but that will due fk all I'm sure.   >:(

Can you put in an insurance claim on the opened luggage? I assume there is no note inside saying TSA actually took the item.

Hi,
Just got back from NAMES and had enough time to get to Gerrit's photos and realize it's bedtime. We took the scenic route home stopping at the Gilmore car museum, and the Indiana Dunes on the way home to Wisconsin. This is the first time I went online all weekend. Stan, thanks for the great slide show and conversation at the show. Gerrit I think I missed you or didn't know you were a MEM member, I ran out of gas tonight, and will pick up at your photos tomorrow. I took a lot of photos Sunday before the hordes got in the door and will post them after I have a chance to sort through them. Steve the Piquette St. plant & museum is open Wed - Sunday. Maybe next year.

After a seeming battle royal with our internet (the wifi servers battery has reached the end of it's life and we need to actually be home to get it repaired) and photobucket. I did get a slideshow put together.

Ok,
I'm home and some important tasks done, armed with the you tube password here goes. this first on I don't know who the owner was but I liked the motion of the rocking beam.  :)

Someone may know what exactly this is.
Larry, this is your engine. I really liked the motion of the link arms that operated the valve.

Hi Art, 3 of the videos are marked private and won't play. The beam engine one is great!

They all worked for me just now, and yes that is Larry's beam engine from Gerry Dykstra's design. The plans are available here: http://www.john-tom.com/html/SteamPlans2.html

Bill,
Thanks for the info. It seems Larry is well represented, although he did have quite a table full as I recall. I'm glad they all worked for you. Crueby, I don't know what to say, cept I'll post more tomorrow.

Crueby,
Thanks, I tried to run around Sunday morning before the masses showed up and that mostly worked. There was a guy running around taking video of most every running engine he put stuff on you tube under the name sparkybluefox but I haven't seen anything from this years show yet.
