Don't know if I am in the right section, but I am sure I will be advised.

Can anybody recommend a plans build IC engine single or multi cylinder made from bar stock??

Look forward to any input

Cheers

To narrow things down some, what's your preferred system of measurement and are you willing to convert?

Hi Paul,

You don't say what kind of complexity or skill level you are aiming for but there a few fairly simple ones here

I'm more interested in steam engines so can't really say what they are like but they may be worth a look.

So many choices, how big are your machines? Do you have a separate mill or is it all done on a lathe?
Best regards

As the others have said can you narrow things down a bit

Do you want a slow reving hit and miss engine or  ascreaming 2-stroke areo engine

Scale looking engine or are you happy to have an ugly bar stock engine or something midway

What sort of size can you swing a 10" flywheel or do you need to keep below 4" to fit your machine

Type of fuel, regular pum gas/petrol is easy to get, glow fuel a bit harder, compression diesel mix can be hard to get unles syou don't intend to run your engines (mentioning not name)

Metric or imperial, what tooling do you have, what do you prefer to work in, what fixings and materials are available where you are.

Do you want free plans or are you willing to pay

Sorry I was somewhat scant with my info. Lathe 12 inch swing 32" centres and mill warco GH unit. Trained as an engineer but that was years ago, not to worried about complexity as thats the fun, must be an IC as I just love the noise.

Appreciate all the input

Metric or imperial not an issue, ideally conventional petrol and ideally a 4 stroke but quite happy with a 2 stroke, single of multi cylinder, needs to look pretty. Quite happy to pay for plans people have to make a living.

The Webster would be one to consider also, your should find some build logs here and likely some youtube videos as well.

If you want good looking you might try one of Jan Ridder's engines.

Now that does appeal to me, who is the guardian of the plans???

Seriously as a biker as well I get the design and would love to have a go at something like that.

Plans and build article in issues 10 & 11 of Model Engine Builder mag, you can get digital back issues quite reasonably, just follow the links as if you were subscribing until you get to the page with back issues

Jerry Howell has some nice plans for I.C. engines: http://www.model-engine-plans.com/engineplans/index.htm He's gone, but his plans are still available.

Depending on the size of your machines, I would recommend the hoglet it's a pretty easy build and there are a few good build logs  to help you.
 Cheers Jason
