John's Shop
« on: April 05, 2017, 10:21:33 AM »
Hello.
Jim asked if I have posted photos of my workshop after seeing some of it in the background behind a current build. Here it is seen far too clean just after it was converted from a woodworking to metal work.  This came about when I wanted to try my hand at making metal parts for Stuart's 'Victoria'.

The South bend lathe and Grizzly mill/drill arrived in the summer of 2014.

Cheers...John

Very nice John. How have you found the Grizzly/South Bend lathe? Was it good right out of the box or did it need some fiddling with like many imports?

Nice shop, John!  I'm envious of how clean and uncluttered it is. :embarassed:

Speaking of the floor, mine desperately needs doing. What did you put on yours, an epoxy or just 'good' paint? Canadian Tire, Home Depot, TSC?

I want proof that that's his shop and not a diorama.  ;D

His dioramas are that good.

Nice diorama shop.

Zee, having been in John's shop a few times, those are real pics. The shop is a bit more "used" now, but that is the real thing.

Mind you, when entering, you do have to stand in this phone box like thing, and after some funny noises and a tingling sensation in the body, you are beside the lathe ....

Thank you gentlemen.
Hi Bill,
The South Bend has been working out well for me. Mind you, I ask very little of it since I don't know how to cut threads and have never used the gears provided. I turn the switch on and it runs! I do like the variable speed. It is useful for threading brass pipe at low RPM.

Hi Gerrit,
The paint is an epoxy floor paint often used on garage floors - Canadian Tire or Home Depot.

Speaking of floors, I've been over on the other site building the floor for the Benson vertical engine. Here is the result...
