Ah! I think I get it. I was really confused about a scroll saw and a lathe.
The video helps! I recall seeing a die-filer on a lathe.

Neat!

That's the beauty of doing that way.   I have a variable speed motor and a nice heavy bench all ready....just add saw.

Screw it.....I'm doing it.

Dave, I don't know if your referring to building a die filer or a scroll saw, but if it's a die filer, here's a great thread that some guy (not sure who the heck he is  :lolb: but he sure seems to know what he's doing) did a while back: http://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,4963.0.html  :naughty:

Some pictures.   The arms are from the article by Heden in home shop machinist.   They are wooden and made from Masa anduba.     It's a tropical hardwood about the consistency of woodpecker lips.

More pictures.  The tool post block is from a bunch I made for other attachments.

I'll need a bellows of some form...I'll sort that after it's running...

The wood is very stiff and hard, but lighter than aluminum.  Should help with the vibration...though I have about 450 pounds to help out with that.

The table will be a fixed 9" diameter x 1/4" thick aluminum.   I'll machine it for a zero clearance insert that I can swap out occasionally.

No tilt on this one, most of what I want to use if for is thin brass/aluminum and plywood under 1/4" thick.

Having said that, the table will be attached to the aluminum beam via 2 #10 screws.    Simple as can be.

Piercing blade with holders shown.

A small bellows is usually attached to the arms so that as it cycles up and down, it puffs air at the cut zone and blows the saw dust away.

Wow!  nothing!    I would have expected more....oh well...

Ordered material for the table today.   Just needs facing and screw holes.

I'll get the crank sorted out this weekend.   I have a fixture I need to make for work.

Here's a proper video write up of a decent small scroll saw of similar size Zee..   It' explains the finer points
