Durn you Pete.

I'm hungry.

Gotta wait a bit. Getting oxtail soup tonight. But no bread.  :cussing:

I think it's a hint.

Zee, what in the *** do you sop with  :lolb:. Pete, what a coincidence, Lou and I just went to one of our favorite local eateries and I was laughing about shrimp and grits being $19 . I told her they served grits and venison regularly at the county jail and it certainly wasn't a delicacy  :lolb:. If you insist, I'll tell you how I know  :lolb:

Maybe we need a food sub forum   8)

It's a generalation  thing Pete. My biggest menu items are things Mother made when things were real tight back in the day and she was trying to stretch a dollar: now it's a delicacy

Probably not tonight, maybe tomorrow, we have a nice big Dungeoness crab all cooked up and in the fridge.

Gonna have crab and grits!!   :P

yeah....

I think a sub-forum for food is a good idea. Especially considering this crew!!

Yep, the stuff that's now expensive in the store, like ham hocks, was the give-away po-folks stuff 65 years ago. And, unlike today, those hocks had some meat on 'em.

Mom could certainly stretch a dime into a quarter...

Now I gotta whip up a big pot of red beans and hocks... and corn bread.

Here's the oxtail soup. Sopped up with home made bread.
Meat, kale, turnips, tomato, something I forget the name of...

Not bad considering the kitchen is an upstairs bedroom.
Behind the shot is an induction hot plate and near that is the old microwave/convection oven from the old kitchen.

Ain't she a wonder?

By golly, I'm impressed. That soup just smells good right through the 'net! I see why you stay around, Carl.   :lolb:

Fearing damage we have stashes in the basement, foyer, and 'bedroom' kitchen.

I remember the day I dropped a case in the basement. Red. It took months to get out of that dog house.  ;D

And it's the kind of deal...that if she simply remembers it...I'll be back in that dog house.
There is no statute of limitations nor "having done one's time".

I can only count on that occasion where she needs me to get me out of the dog house.
Kill a spider, unplug a toilet...that kind of thing.

We had a bridging loan for 6 months one time. To economize we stopped eating out, planning on a bang up meal at an expensive restaurant when the deal closed. In the end we had enjoyed cooking great food for ourselves so much that we got out of the 'eating out' habit altogether. 300 days on Holland America cruises with an excellent culinary program finished it off.

So no, USD19 for a shrimp meal is not going to happen in this house. That would be CAD25 which is excessive for a simple meal.

Home cooked is best, and as the photo above shows you don't need an elaborate set up to do it well!
