Levin Model B
« on: February 26, 2017, 08:20:06 PM »
I was just thanking Bill Lindsey on one of his threads for making me get out my Levin Model B watchmaker's lathe and getting it useable. Everything still feels silky smooth, but, I'm going to have to have a play with the electricals. Here is a few pictures.

And this one shows the "antique" motor and speed controler. The motor runs fine, however, bit concerned with the speed control  :o

Thanks for stopping by.

That's a very nice tool   I am unfortunately having to say that that looks to be typical American electrics 8 (duck quickly  ::) )
Best regards

Pretty cool.

Do you already have plans as to what you'll do with it?

That is a little beauty Cletus. The wiring does look a bit um...."brittle" though but that is easy enough to correct. What else you got hidden over there in Springbucket??

Keep that thing away from Stan, he will be trashing all the electricals and hooking up one of his steam engines to it.  :lolb:

Is it just me or does that support on the right end not match the rest of the lathe?

This is going to be a fun thread to see where it goes!  :)

10 mm collet? with a collet tailstock!   Much in demand, and fairly rare.

Thanks for stopping in guys. Steamer, I think it's the lower end 8mm WW collet one; this old watchmaker was quite frugal. Mosey, you might need to increase your fiber intake, cause you are still full of sh$t  8)
On the same note: Roger, I was insulated by my safety gear and a pint. Dave O, I thought the "gas pedal" was pretty slick too, however, I thought it was just something the previous owner cobbled together. However, seems the Hamilton Beech motor and foot control was one of their "upgrades" back in the day . Zee, for now, maybe just some practice graver work on brass. Now, if I could find a reasonably priced crossfeed and compound ( thinking this would be a great toolmaker departure) there is a lot more that it would be used for . Jim, use what ya got  :lolb:. Hang on, I'll do it proud. Bill, ain't no telling at what I'm used to looking at that would impress a lot of city folk  :Jester:. Y'all mentioned Stan: I was wondering if a feller built his own cross slide and compound how awesome would it be to CNC it on this lathe. Vern, Vern, just saying  :lolb:. Keep your lead screw oily,

I do not see any collets in the photos. One of these with a set of ER8 collets might come in handy.
