building a "Tiny" too!
« on: February 19, 2017, 11:43:07 PM »
Spent some quality time with Samantha bell today because I can't progress with the Wallaby till the mill is fixed....

So ....I' started a "Tiny" air cooled version.....

BILL SAID IT WAS OK!!!!!      8)

I single pointed the 1/2-40 right up to the shoulder, and then made a female threaded arbor and bored the cylinder last.....

ANOTHER "TINY"!!!!
I am all for it.  I am sure Arv is proud for starting this craze. A long time ago I was keeping track of how many were built/being built but I lost track some where after the first 100. Arv is not too active anymore so I will try to drop him a note so he will be able to follow along. I will be following along also.

Thanks Gail!    I'll be ordering up some bearings for the Clausing tomorrow, but this is such a fun build.   it's not that hard to set up or make.   and I think I can crank a part or so out every couple of days or so....so not a long time investment either.

The Wallaby is starting to wind down and it will be a while before the 917 12 will be ready to cut metal...so time to have some fun with straight up builds...

Hi Dave,
You know when you and Bill get finished with these there's still the vertical water cooled version.

YUP!    Fun stuff too!

I'm enjoying the SB.    The VFD really showed it's stuff tonight....like having a hand crank....without the hand crank!.   thread right to the shoulder, and JUST stop.

Got a shopping list.    I'll give my bearing supplier a call tomorrow and get these bearings in hand...then we'll go to town and get this old girl running again.

3 out of the 5 engines below were built on this mill by Ray.    Just 3 of probably hundreds of engines he built or worked on.

That big vertical is still my favorite of Ray's  designs. I have the plan book from Village Press, and its on the list but not till I get some current projects finished first  :naughty: I would scale it down to probably half size though.

That particular #10 engine is the prototype.   It was Rays personal engine.   The current owner got it at the Cabin Fever auction, and tore it down and polished and plated the whole thing.

Ray would have approved, as he's a young kid.  He's an apprentice tool and die maker for Starrett's.
