The morning after the night before and we might be getting some where :wine1:

The offending 6mm threaded holes, which had 6mm cast Iron plugs loctited in, have now been files flush and we are ready to go again. So it is more stud time  There must be something more interesting to do, studs aren't what they used to be :disappointed:

Swarf making has been a little delayed due to the influx of a vast number of Jaffa cakes  :-X  and some other stuff including a useful piece of steel for one of my other engines. Thank you Dave  ;D

Having mounted a chuck up on Tgs table and clocked it in. The 8 stud holes are easy to put in. I am not sure what all the fuss was about those two studs that break through into the steam port are well into the port, if they were put where the Bertinant drawings show the drill would have been pushed sideways  :noidea:

So is that to the Stuart layout Jo with just 45degree spacing between all holes?

J

PS Hope your Jaffas did not melt on the way down :(

Yes that is the standard Stuart 45 degrees between the holes.

The advantage of cars with air conditioning is that your Jaffa's don't melt  :whoohoo:

Jo

And thank you Jo for the grand tour and taking my junk  ;D

Must admit your shop was much more comfortable than mine. When I got back here and opened it up it was like furnace ...  42.2o and had been 44.3o at some time today.  :insane:

Ghastly memories of Steamer Point ....  :(

Now on 3RD beer ....

Dave

The covers have been drilled by holding them in a chuck. The first of the trunks has moved onto Tgs bed for drilling.

And the Stud farm is in full production

I thought I had sufficient nuts for all of my studs but a count up this morning showed that I only have 44 matching ones of a quality I am happy with and some other that at a push could go under the trunk but I would know they were there  :facepalm2:

I need at least another 28 for these studs and it is no good trying to buy quality nuts blind  :-\ My favourite nut man goes to the Guildford show each year and supplies best quality Swiss nuts  :P However I am not going  :disappointed:

The only other option is to make my own. Having rummaged through my drawers I found a piece of 2BA hex (8.2mm A/F) in amongst lots of BSF A/F (8.5mm A/F) neither of which will fit in an 8mm hex 5C collet  :ShakeHead: 28 nuts 4.1mm long, allow for parting off and facing, so say 7mm each = 196mm.

And then there is another lot for the reverser, more joy...  :(

Hi Jo,
When I have a project that requires nuts and bolts I try to buy quality off the shelf items just because of the sheer boredom of having to make so many of them but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and make them.

Thanks George, I thought that was a bag of 100 but as I discovered when I came to count them it wasn't. Thankfully I have tracked down a 8.5mm A/F 5C collet which is now winging its way to me and should be here by the weekend ;D.

Time to drill the Stands: Squared up with the back of Tgs table, the centre can be found and then the 8 holes drilled in the top face. The two oiler holes in the side faces required a slightly precarious mounting for drilling. After these have been tapped 3/16" by 40 Tpi. The 40 TPI being to help get the oliers square when fitted.  They are not shown on the drawings.

One more to go later...

You could just ask someone to buy some for you at the show.

Does he not do mail order if you needed them at other times of the year?

Some of us are not going to the show  :'(

The problem is if someone else picks them up that would require a visit to drop them off and I am not sure if we will be up to that, so it could be a few weeks delay before I got them  :-\

The postage will cost more than the nuts... Had another look at EKP but still not impressed with their nuts  :censored:

Just found another 17 300mm long lengths of 2BA Hex hiding in the workshop   ;D

I thought you could have used some of your sub standard nuts for now and then just fitted the good ones on final assembly which will be some time off. Thinking about it you probably won't get them painted before next years show anyway :mischief:

I don't mind EKP nuts it's their washers that have gone down hill :( Just as well I seem to be going over to metric fasteners more and more on my own design engines.

IF there is any of the hex bar I gave you in that 17 be aware that some of the bar I think I gave to you is the long gone 3/16" B.S.F., ie. 0.339" A.F.

Not far removed from 2B.A.  (  0.324" A.F. ??? )

If you are taking this into account please ignore my prattling
