A simple Vertical Steam Engine.
« on: February 19, 2017, 11:26:43 AM »
Some of you will recall that to keep my sanity while I am making the triple orphans I knocked up a simple Horizontal engine: http://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,5962.0.html Sadly the triples are still on and on going I have decided this time it is time to go vertical.

So the first target is one of these.....and I have a pile of orphaned bits to make it from.

How much I can do on this will be limited as someone wants to borrow the stand and the cylinder and take them for a foundry visit  :noidea:

In the meantime I am not feeling too hot so I thought the box bed might be a nice simple little thing to make some swarf out of...

I knew it must be lunch time when the casting had a mole attack  :ShakeHead: it does look rather nice out in the garden .

We've got things popping outside too. Too early! Not even the end of February.

Off to a good start, lets hope Stuarts were kind enough to put the bosses in the same position as shown on the drawings so your holes in the base will line up with the box :-\

No Daffs out here yet, must be a lowland thing ;)

Thanks Dave,

I have one of those as well, this one is just a little bigger and I have the reversing stuff for it :)

Actually someone had a D10 yesterday at the traction engine meeting which was very nice. I could be tempted to do something similar.... it would need a couple of trunk guides and two cylinders and those were already planning to go off to the foundry

Thanks Jim, lets all keep our fingers crossed :)

I am sure it was last year that my new year resolution was not to buy any more sets of castings and we all know that a new year resolution can't be the same two years running  :hellno:     So I have just been speaking to my supplier and it looks like I might have one of my missing set of castings coming.  We will find out if they were successful acquired first thing tomorrow  :naughty:

Jo,
What's bore and stroke? It looks like it will be a fine engine.

57mm bore and 73mm stroke  :)

I think my compressor may struggle to run the single, let alone Double Trouble :(
