Glue chucks become really valuable at small sizes....

Overall length is like .750". Yes it's small!!

Bill

Small is relative.  ;)

-Bob

And relative to what I do (what most of us do?)  this is SMALL!
Though it may be a tad on the large side for you Bob

Nice work on the rocker arm Bill,
Kim

A little progress and a little frustration in the last day or so but we are moving ahead. Yesterday I knocked out the latch out bushing which was a matter of turning to size, drilling and tapping a hole for the set screw, parting off and facing to final length. This is shown in the first 3 photos.

Then is was on to the cam follower, Photo 4 is the second attempt and after thinning the lever part I wasn't happy with the rounding of the big end, so I ended up keeping the lever part of it and making a round big end and soldering the two together. It still took some delicate filing and polishing to get the contours looking like I wanted but the third time was the charm and I am happy with it. The finished part is shown in photo 5.

Too many pictures for one post so I will continue with the cam follower bolt in the next post.

The cam follower both was mostly a turning job and getting that step just above the threads to be a good close fit to the bore of the cam follower (photo 1). Once that was done I turned it around in the chuck and off to the mill with the hex chuck adapter to form the hex head of the bolt (photo 2). Before taking it out of the chuck, I checked to make sure the 5/32" hex driver would actually fit and fortunately it did (photo 3). The finished bolt is shown in photo 4, and shown in place through the cam follower in photo 5. While things were going well I turned and threaded one end of the pushrod and radiused the other end to fit in the dimple of the cam follower (photo 6). This whole assembly is only about 2" long.

Finally, all of the parts except the frame, fuel tank, muffler and pushrod are being stored in the polycon container. All of these other parts are not yet even filling half of the little container but at least they are safe from the gremlins :) (photo 7).

Nice Bill.  I just finished those parts yesterday and am currently working on the rocker arm.  Your follower looks much better than mine.

Lets hope those last words don't come back to haunt you.  ;D

Excellent progress Bill.

That's a nice collection of parts Bill. I'm enjoying this build a lot.

Sorry about your earlier frustrations, but glad you got through them.  Those parts are all looking mighty nice!
And that green bucket must be awfully small, because those parts make it look full, and I KNOW they are itsy-bitsy little parts!  :)

Plenty more room in the green "bucket" Kim. And so far the gremlins have left it alone too :)

Thanks Don, time consuming yes and lots of detail filing to get them to look like I wanted them too but oddly enough I don't mind that too much. I find it relaxing in a way, but there is a lot of work in some of these parts for sure. Have you got any new projects started lately?

Actually no Bill and really no excuse for not having started one this year. I do have all the material for the Waller Table top engine and need to get myself motivated and get after it. Spring is here and yard things are taking over but I really need to get back to my shop.
