Jason, thanks for the link. Just what I have been looking for.

I did not see a price list. Is it a case of "if you need to ask the price, you cannot afford one"?

I got two from Jurassic Tools for about £7 each used but in perfect condition. They do come up on e-bay from time to time.

With the boring bar made there was no excuse not to make the cradle to hold the column so a few bits of steel and aluminium were cobbled together and bored out to fit the column.

With the small spacing blocks removed the column could be gripped and the boring bar slipped into position.

Then a few long boring cuts in both sense of the word.

Not too bad a finsh and no chatter which was good, will need a bit of honing and or lapping but thats easy enough. The wavy line is just where the vacuum cleaner nozzle rubbed.

Nice Job on the column Jason.  Boring mine was a challenge also.  I sure wish I had known about the Microbore heads; I made a "poor man's" equivalent and ended up doing a lot of honing to get a smooth, even bore.  Fortunately I have a rigid hone that finished the cylinder well.  Here's a photo of the set-up I used.

Just managed to get the Otto cylinder onto the mill table without too much hanging off each end to mill the 24 flutes. Bit of a difficult one to set up as the section to be fluted is tapered and the depth of the cut needs to decrease as it goes up the column to get classic Ionic column proportions. It's good enough but could have done with being about 0.2mm higher at the left hand end.

I used the Rotary Table from ARC as it is 72:1 which makes it easy to do 24 divisions as it is just 3 turns of the handle. Quite like using this one and it did not even give me an odd spacing on the last flute. :)

Hello,

Jason, that's going to be a really big engine. Wow.
You are making very good progress.
I can learn a lot there.
I have also seen that you have built very beautiful bearing blocks. Respect.

Greeting Toby

Thanks Toby, yes the bearings were a lot more work but once you know what the real things should look like it is hard to do anything else. I hope to get back to this over the winter and progress it a bit more.

Your IHC is coming along well too
