I have some bits to make the cylinder boring bar out of  :embarassed: next I will have to make a little hole in it like this.

My cylinder recast has been delayed so I have been given the third we had poured while we wait for the last to be cast  8)

And I have found some castings in the garage  :whoohoo: that are bigger and heaver than the OL ones  :-X

I can see that but are they 06 or 09? CCMT is type not size :disagree:

I was worried as they looked like 09 which would not go down small enough, having said that some of the 06 ones may still be too big, are the code numbers readable on the cartridges?

They take the same tips as fit on all my cheap Chronos lathe tools that I have  ::)

The bar is 970mm long, so I might cut it down.... 700mm would be more than adequate  or I could poke the spare up a collet, its just under 32mm diameter seems a shame to loose it.

Jumping ahead a bit but I could not resist having a measure up and there still may be a bit more to go on top of that ;)

With it being a bit hot to be flicking engines over I decided it was about time to fit the Microbore head to the boring bar I started about 6 months ago. All seems OK and the cylinder will just pass the cutter to allow for adjustment. I decided not to mill a flat area around the insert in order to keep the bar as rigid as possible, makes it a tiny bit harder to adjust but I'd rather have the stiffness.

Yes it's safely tucked away in a draw, well away from any castings or special coatings ;)

How are you doing the micro adjustment on that extra long, thin boring bar? Any more photos?

The Micro boring bars have a disc Vernier scale that fits to the shaft on them  ;)

Mike, the main cutter body is threaded M8 x 0.5 and there is a callibrated "nut" that advances the tool, link below should give details. As I have made my own holder it won't have the vernier scale engraved on it but with the nut giving 0.02mm divisions on diameter that is good enough for me, don't need 0.002mm which the vernier would give. Bar is 35mm dia
