cleaning my shop floor
« on: September 13, 2012, 11:20:49 PM »
well guys i need some help cleaning my concrete floor in my shop.  :help:
over the years it has developed a rather rusty look
now it is time to remove the rust, so my question is what to use to remove it.
i have been told to use muratic acid but i don't want to have to deal with the fumes.
then i thought about using CLR do you guys think that is a good idea or do you have a better idea????

thanks

Can it be sanded? But I don't know anything about such things.

Go to your local hardware store, they carry cleaner for concrete. Most of the cleaners do have acid in them, this is the only way you will remove the rust? Muratic acid is the pretty popular one. The cleaner I used for my driveway had acid in it, but it cleaned the rust stains.

TSP or tri sodium phosphate is a general purpose concrete cleaner.  And hardware or big box store should have it.  Scrub it in with a brush, rinse off.

Don't laugh........I took some of my home brewed [beer] & spilt some on an oily concreted workshop floor  :DrinkPint: ......when the floor was hosed down .....the oily flooring had clear patches where the beer was spilt  :Jester:

It was enough to put me off that particular  :stir: of beer  ....Derek

+1 on that!  Years ago I made the mistake of leaving a bottle of muratic acid in my shop overnight without a top.  The next morning every steel or iron surface was covered in surface rust.
