GWR Broad Gauge Rover Class Loco
« on: May 01, 2022, 12:23:13 PM »
I have been intrigued for a long time by Brunel’s Broad Gauge, apart from the Broad Gauge Society there are only a few who model this subject which is a same as to me the later engines are magnificent.
I am working in G3 for a while and thought a Rover class loco would be a suitable subject to model, here are some pics of the process all machined on a CNC mill.

That's a fascinating locomotive, the springing arrangement is especially eye catching. Your build quality looks to be top notch too!

That's beautiful!
I'm not familiar with broad gauge.  I'll have to look it up.

Thanks for posting your work.

Excellent  :praise2:  :praise2:

I wonder what would have happened if we had retained Brunel's broad gauge  :headscratch: Would the  requirement for transhipment have been too much? Modern rail-wheel technology removes most of the limitations of 4' 8 1/2" that the broad gauge was meant to solve.

Hitler's planned 3m gauge (search broader than broad) was an even bigger step  ::)
Best regards

Roger

Thanks for the kind remarks.

Willy, I don't understand your question, what angle on wheels?

Your models of these splendid older engines are very fine indeed, and this one is unusual, as you mention, as well as being a beautiful locomotive.  Dave

Sorry the taper on the wheel periphery  that allows the wheels to move  sideways when negotiating bends on the rails ..a bit like a deferential on a car ??!! I dont quite know the correct terminology for this  !

The taper or cone on a railway wheel is to help keep a wheel set central between the rails, G3 standards are 3deg.

Hope that explains

Mike
