Edwards twin cylinder engine - interest vintage engine
« on: February 10, 2017, 04:07:45 AM »
I thought this was kind of an interesting engine.

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggwe91MIOL8" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggwe91MIOL8</a>

It's a twin cylinder engine with the connecting rods on either side of the center-located flywheel.  I'm assuming it must have atmospheric intake valves since there are only two pushrods going from the cam to the head.  Be darned if I can see more than two valves in that head.  The intakes must be on the bottom somewhere.

An interesting engine indeed. As it appears to be hit and miss governed it must have atmospheric inlet valves which are probably mounted underneath. Multi cylinder hit and miss engines are quite rare as far as I know and must be quite difficult to set up properly so that the load is balanced across the cylinders.
Best regards

Thank you for the link. So it's not hit and miss governed, it just doesn't run very well  :)
Best regards

Mike, thanks for that link.  It explains a lot.  By the way, I like a lot of the engines built by eldensengines.  He's created some real oddballs.

Hi Chuck.
The Edwards is certainly different in engine design, you could say it was ahead of it's time.

Cool looking engine Chuck.  Was kind of worried about you.  Haven't seen you posting much lately.

Cool looking engine Chuck.  Was kind of worried about you.  Haven't seen you posting much lately.

Thanks for the concern.  My lung cancer has resurfaced and I'm going through another round of chemo.  The prognosis looks positive, but the treatments have kind of knocked me down a bit.  Dr also thinks I have Hyperthyroidism which is making me tired so I may get some medication for that.  I've been puttering around in my garage, but nothing project-wise for a while.  Still need to wind up work on my solenoid scotch yoke engine.

I've been thinking about some more engine projects but haven't settled on a project yet.  Maybe soon.

Sorry that you haven't been feeling well Chuck, good to know you're still puttering around in the garage & looking for new engine ideas.  :stickpoke:

This engine would be a nice addition to your collection, it has such a nice sound...maybe a little rough...

 Get well soon,

 John

Good luck to you Chuck.  I am going to S&W Hospital in Temple for an Aortic Valve Replacement by the TAVR method at 0500 AM on the 24th
of this month.  Be safe, keep faith.

Get Well.
