Hi Rich,

Personally I go for about 69 for running in and then up from there as it is not so thin that it just runs out. A little off but there was a prolific builder near hear used to run in with brasso first then flush through with thin oil and then thicker. He never used to strip down to clear out the brasso just flush out.

Hi

Thanks Steve, I have found some 69 on ebay

A bit of progress today. I think I have the valves set  :cartwheel:

Many thanks to Nick for his setting instructions

The new eccentrics with their external grub screws make the job a whole lot easier

It must have felt great when it came back together and worked as shown in the video, after the previous mishap

Hi

Thanks Chris, Admiral, Kim and Thomas

Got the steam T made up. Its as per the plans the photos should provide enough info

One thing to note though. The oil check valve that will screw into the front is tapped 5/16" x 40. They are cheap enough to just buy one and save me the trouble of making it but I cannot find a supplier that has one in 5/16 x 40 they all seem to be 1/4 x 40. Had I checked that first I would have tapped the hole 1/4 x 40

Cheers

Looking good. I understand where you are coming from with the drilled and tapped holes for fittings. Hope you can bend the copper tube ok with the end fitting on.

Hi Steve

In the text he says to use copper, brass or gun metal

Which must be bent after fitting.

I don't fancy trying to bend gun metal or brass so copper it is

Fair point Rich, it just caught my eye the bend in the copper tube shown on the smokebox drawing.

The Steam Tee looks great Rich!

I found a couple of 5/16"-40 taps on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=tap+5%2F16-40

Several of them are Prime and you could have it in 2 days :)

Good luck!

Hi

Kim its not the taps, I have already tapped the hole. It seems oil check valves are not commercially available in 5/16 x 40

Ah, I get it.  I misunderstood the issue.  Maybe you could make a check valve? :)

Hi Rich,

If you really want to use a commercial 1/4 x 40 oil check valve you could just reverse that steam-T (leaving your plug in place) and just drill/tap the other side?

The steam-T is symmetrical (leastways it is on my Conway!) so that should work?

While on that part, my steam pipe screws into the top of the T.   If you solder it in it (like Martins drawing) you need a larger hole in the smokebox floor, to clear the 1/2 inch threaded end, and that is rather more difficult to seal!

The screwed-in approach also makes fitting the smokebox a little easier if the pipe is bent.  Mine is straight but leans forward slightly - there is just enough clearance to the blast nozzle.

Regards, Richard.
