Hi

Thanks Mike and Roger

I have had a little workshop time but not so much on Conway.

Very soon (hopefully) the loco will have to go the club to have its second hydraulic test followed by the steam test.

At that point I will have to get it off the bench and into my car. Its now of a weight that I can't manage so I have started on a scissor lift and a winch.

Cheers

Hi

I have made a good start on the scissor lift. I am using a car jack.

Hi

Thanks cnr6400

Its quite a weight on its own but once finished it will live in the garage. Some of the materials I have used are over kill and could have been lighter gauge but I'm working with what I have. Anyway more weight should mean more stability.

Hi

The scissor lift is almost done. Just one or two tweaks to finish it

Hi

Back to refitting the boiler

The first time I built the loco I had the devils own job to get the snifting valve piped up.

This time for some reason was even worse. I just could not get the pipe to go on. My hands are just too big to get in there comfortably.

To make life easier I have moved the snifting valve further forward and made a new pipe. A little easier to fit now. I have made and fitted a dummy snifting valve to fill in the hole

It really start to look like a steam loco Rich

I'm aware that it will still take quite a bit of work before you have a running engine and I will continue to follow along - together with many others

That is quite cool looking, Rich!
Love the scissor lift too.  i may have to make something like that soon.
Even these little guys get heavy!

Hi

Thanks Per and Kim

The loco is far too heavy for me to lift now hence the scissor lift.

The problem I faced was getting it off the bench and into my car.

My workshop is in the rear garden. From there I have to wheel it through the garage at the side of the house and out onto the driveway. Unfortunately there is a 10" step up into my workshop so the scissor lift won't be able to exit the workshop. I have to rig up some sort of pulley block to lift the loco off the bench and onto a trolley on the workshop floor (a bit of board and 4 castors) I can then wheel it to the workshop door and transfer it to the scissor lift waiting outside. Once on the scissor lift I can wheel it out the front and into the car. The scissor lift will live in the garage. Bit of a performance but it has to be done.

Cheers

Hi

The floor trolley done. 18mm MDF, 4 castors 2 of which are braked and 3 rails for 3 1/2'' and 5''

The trolley can wheel to the door and line up with the scissor lift

Just got to make a pulley to swing it off the bench and down onto the trolley now

Trolley looks great Rich.    Have you planned some easily fitted and removed wheel chocks / stops for it? Just food for thought.

Wouldn't want to have the trolley stall on a pebble or chip of steel on the floor, and the locomotive keep rolling!    :o :o :o  :'(

Hi

Yes it will be held down while I move it, possibly luggage straps.

The trolley has a plate at one end with 2 holes in it

The 2 outer rails have bolts that point down

When I lower the scissor lift the 2 bolts drop into the 2 holes in the trolley and hold the 2 together

A fixed stop/buffer at the back end

Hi

Finished the overhead gantry and got a small 1 ton chain hoist. The hoist is mounted on roller bearings and will travel from bench to bench. I can now lower the loco to the floor trolley, wheel it to the door, transfer it to the scissor lift and from there out to the car
