Congratulations Chuck, I was sure your engine would run eventually.

It looks like you changed two things: the size of the transfer port and the change from pressure controlled to conventional porting.

The relative positions of the transfer and exhaust ports on yours look to be about the same as on mine so I guess my next move (after CF) is to increase the size of the transfer port.

Thank you for the experiments.

Jim

Patience and persistence are two of model engineers most valuable talents.  You have shown that you have lots of both with this build.  Congratulations.

Thanks, all, for following the thread and keeping me going.  Still got a few things to do.

Although the engine will start, it's not running anywhere near as well as I want it to.  I'm thinking it would benefit from a second flywheel.  I have another casting like the original, so I'm going to clean it up and fit it to the other side.  I also need to finish out the cooling system and add a more permanent fuel tank.  Finally, I need to add top pieces to the crosshead slide.

Don't know if you noticed in the video,  but the engine will run equally well in either direction.  I'm planning to keep the glow plug ignition for that reason.

OK, chuck. Since you are going to use the glow plug and add a flywheel, why not just add a mock hot tube and put the glow plug in it?

There's an idea I hadn't thought of.  Actually, I haven't given up on the idea of an actual hot tube.  Might be about time for another field trip over to your shop and have a look at your hot tube.  The burner is still a it of a mystery to me.

Would love to see a real hot tube working! Like the fact that glow plug is working though as it is what I'll prob use on first ic. Are you just leaving the glow plug with power to it and running on petrol then Chuck?
