engine identification??
« on: December 09, 2016, 09:41:11 PM »
Hi, I picked this two cylinder engine up this week, can anyone identify it? It is made from castings so somewhere there may be some plans so & could try to complete it & get it running. Does anyone know anything about it??

That's a Seagull engine, by Etgar T. Westbury.

Plans and castings are available from Hemingway Kits.

Thanks Yogi, it looks like I need two gears as turning the crankshaft does not operate the valves, I need a manifold & carb & something to give me a spark!

Hi, has anyone built this engine or maybe has some of my missing parts to sell? I would love to see it running again or for the first time.

It goes clockwise looking at the flywheel end. At top dead center, the cams are 125° (or 55°) either side of vertical (one pair pointing up, the other down). Note that the cylinder and crankshaft centrelines are offset, so strictly top dead (piston at highest point) is not when the crankpin is on vertical centreline.
