Square Collets
« Reply #361 on: April 20, 2017, 02:59:12 PM »
Thanks Bill.

I'm finding the investment in square collets well worth it. These photos show how easy it is to chuck small square bar to slot it, turn it, drill it and thread it with only taking it out of the collet and turning it around once.

Really nice J.L. Square collets are nice. Also, check into the hex ones in common sizes. With both square and hex collets and square and hex collet blocks, there is a lot of indexing combinations there. Cheers

Thank you Cletus.
And thank you for recommending the hex collets as well.
Your comments are appreciated.

The Water Pump
« Reply #369 on: April 22, 2017, 02:43:47 PM »
Thank you gentlemen for the very kind comments. Appreciated.

In 2008, Anthony outlined in his book how the pump body was to be manufactured from two pieces of brass rod and soldered together. Since that time Poly Engineering must have started casting the part in gunmetal.

Here is the body of the pump chucked for drilling along with its stainless steel ram and shackle.

The output flange was cast on the body of this pump. Anthony's design before the casting was available was to have this flange screw into the output spigot of the body to hold a stainless steel ball in place. With this design, an internal stop will have to be threaded into the spigot.

I love it until the nut falls on the floor never to be seen again.   ::)
