New old machine
« on: November 15, 2016, 09:41:49 PM »
After a few years doing other things and having sold my mini-lathe and mill in the meantime, I've been bitten once again. So today I collected my new 1972 vintage machine which came with all the bits I'm likely to need for the foreseeable future  (3 jaw, 4 jaw, tail-stock chuck, numerous centres, faceplate, change gears, vertical slide and enough HSS tooling to see me out). Just need to learn how to look after it now so it lasts another 44 years

The ML10 looks nice Paul, congtatulations with your new lathe. If you don't have the manual, you should be able to buy one from https://store.lathes.co.uk/myford

I did look at a 1940's Leblond Regal machine but the motor was shagged and I know nothing about electrical stuff (and spare parts would be impossible I guess).

I've whipped the machine off the angle-iron stand, which allowed the whole lot to vibrate when balls out - not conducive to a good finish - and bolted it and the chip tray onto a very heavy bench. It's absolutely rock solid now so should be much better. Certainly a world apart from my old mini-lathe.
