Bruce's Rupnow Engine Build
« on: November 01, 2016, 07:58:13 AM »
Well after a number of weeks of waiting for the MT2 reamer from the UK to fix up my mill spindle (Thanks Arc Euro for Fedex backup) I have finally started making swarf again.

The weeks were productive though with all of Brian's drawings redrawn in metric.

So today I made a con rod

Measure twice - cut once the saying goes

The "practice" version was profiled in 10mm aluminium

Then I got the mill working on the real piece

The final version all cut out

And with some bushes fitted

This engine is a lot smaller than it looks.

Thanks Brian for the design and the drawings

Cheers
Bruce

Hi Bruce--I am thrilled to see you on board with my engine. Yours will be the fourth build that I am following. It is a great engine, and you will probably get many requests for the plans in metric. Good luck,--Brian rupnow

A little more done

Crank web and con rod, pin and retainer done.

Also cut a big block of expensive ali (7075 - I think) down for the frame and cylinder mount. That took quite some time.

Thanks for looking in

Bruce, a couple of your photos are not showing.  There is one in post 5 and the lastest one in post 7.

There seems to be something happening to 2 of the photos above. They were taken using my phone and I am going to try replacing them with ones using my camera.

Cheers

Edit: Photos changed - Let's see if that works

Things have been a bit busy of late but I have made some progress.

The big chunk of Ali has been sized and then shaped

I need to get a long reach end mill to hog out the gap in the frame so I thought I would move on to the cylinder

After cleaning up the Cast iron and turning to size I decided to cut the fins before boring the cylinder out

After drilling out to 18mm I got to start using my new 12mm Boring Bar - It worked well - ran out of time so have only got to 21mm.

I am away for until the middle of next week so I may not get too much more done until then.

Cheers
