What's these 'ere things then ???

Look a bit like a strange counter-bore ??

Never heard of them.

Not that I want any, just curious.

Rather than the 60deg conical hole they give a rounded hole like a bell or trumpet. Used when offsetting the tailstock to turn tapers as the rounded profile does not damage the tailstock ctr.

Ages ago I had a live centre, 4MT, with a spherical end, ( from memory, about 4-5mm dia. ) instead of a conical point.

I was told that was for offset taper turning.

IIRC it was Archer Brand.

It got given away, no use to me, 2MT on the ML7/T I had at the time.
