Model Igniter problems

Hi all I'am in the process of restoring a model gas engine that was built by Miles Miller of Meadville it's loosely based on an international titian screen cooled . I have restored the finish and I'm in the process of getting it to run but I'm having problems with the ingiter ,here is a photo of the engine the igniter will follow .Jeff

Here are a few photos of the igniter .
I can get this to work  but the points are closed at rest which of course  drains the battery .
One item I did notice is that the trip arm has lots of play , currently I need about 1/8" of movement before I get to spring to respond , so I started to make it over with a closer fit .

The points should be normally open. They are closed by the cam briefly then allowed to spring back open creating the spark.

You look to be missing the spring that holds the contacts apart, this is usually a tension spring that hooks onto a peg poking out of the flange.

Correct Jason , this set up does not have a spring to keep the points open , it never did . I have the prints and the igniter is made in reverse from the drawing but it's only an assembly drawing , it's hard to say but I think Miles made a mistake when he made this and just got it to work .

Jason,
When did you build your Galloway? The reason I'm asking is because the stop for the igniter arm and the slotted pushrod to allow adjustment for the trip lever were added when I redrew the drawings.
If you came up with these ideas yourself, well, great minds think alike.

A lot better than the old ones that were with the 1/6th scale engine I previously had. Luckily I managed to palm that off on an unsuspecting casting collector :-X
