Cole's Corliss valves
« on: October 02, 2016, 02:40:03 AM »
I finnished the engine a few years ago, but never liked the way it ran. I was getting a lot of excessive blow by on the valves, and wasnt sure if they were even closing all the way. I was so disgusted I decided to shelve the project and build another engine just to get my mind right. Well now it is time to re-visit the Corliss. Upon investigation,  I believe that where I went wrong was to cut the notches in yhe valve too deep. Im getting ready to re-make the valves , and was wondering if anyone who has built this engine has pictures of their finnished valves, and any advice would also be welcomed.

On my Corliss I got a lot of leaks on the valves too, made another set that was a tighter fit in the bores and it was a lot better, still not great. Like spool valves, at the small size of the models it seems to be a tough thing to get a good seal. I would also be interested in any tips.
