Reversed emery cloth is used for polishing graphite.Fine emery cloth. Correct way around, for brass etc.The steel rule backing, gives much better control, than fingers....

Steel rules have a nasty habit of getting a sharp edge from running scribers up and down their edges.I would have said typical Yorkshire man but then realised that you can't be from Yorkshire as you didn't mention about only buying one grade and as it wears out using it instead of wasting money buying the finer grades Jo
