Boiler making video
« on: September 26, 2016, 06:09:55 PM »
On another Board, someone shared this link:

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mwz7OF0eD_I" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mwz7OF0eD_I</a>

It is about making the firebox from copper sheet metal for the "Furka Dampfbahn - HG 4/4"
Although people only talk german, it may be interesting for some of you.

Absolutely wonderful! I didn't know fireboxes that big were made of copper. That sheet for must be 12-14 mm thick!
Those guys sure know what they're doing.

Thank you for posting that!!

Very interesting to see how they threaded through for the staybolts before riviting the ends over. Also the flaring of the firetubes. Thanks for posting this!

A most interesting video. Pete, I would bet that copper sheet is closer to 20-25mm thick.  Somebody has some pretty deep pockets...sure wouldn't want to scrap one of those pieces. Um...is this your next project Florian?? :LittleDevil:

An all riveted boiler with a copper fire box could never be built here is the States. I once visited a company building a new boiler for an old steam loco that was being restored. The old boiler was all riveted. The new boiler was all welded by certified welders. All the steel in the boiler had to be certified.

I loved the way the built the special taps for taping the holes for the copper stays.
