Hi everyone

As I stated in Vince's thread, I have done a little redesigning of the valves

The action of the valves in my build as drawn has a rocking motion on the shaft, of which this possibility was pointed out by member imagineering when he first saw my engine in the flesh.

I am not happy with this rocking so I thought I would go with a more conventional castle style valve and an extended shaft and support bush.

Below are the drawings I have made for those that are interested (both files are the same but just different formats)

Cheers

Bruce

Hi folks

Made a start on the new valves today.

Milling out the pocket

The slots all cut

Valves all done - look the part(s)

With the shaft and nut

I have drilled out one steam chest to accept the bush and started on the bus. More work and pics tomorrow

Cheers

Well it was Fathers Day here in NZ and I got to spend the day in the workshop  :whoohoo:

I got the steam chests modified and the the valves in

Here is a comparison shot

I think the timing is as good as I can get it and it seems to run reasonably well on about 8-10 psi

Got a bit of work to do on the pipe work but got the inlet flange and pipe done

All set to show at Club night on Wednsday (Hutt Valley Model Engineering Society)

And a quick video to prove it still runs

Hi Bruce,
Happy fathers in your house to eh?
Looks like you had a successful day! She's running sweet!
I spent time making some spacers for my trolley, trying to get past the butt clenching of parting off! Made 8, 19 dia 2.3 mm

Running nicely!  The pictures in the last post are showing as broken link icons here, but the video is there. Pics in previous posts are fine. The shop gnomes stealing photos now?!
