That would make much more sense Pete. I really like that control panel but was more focused on the flow meter than the tach.

I like the whole test panel idea. First one I've seen on this board, or others for that matter. A guy could really do it up properly with speed, intake velocity, exhaust velocity, temperatures for both, fuel rate.....

Lots of gauges!!  :whoohoo:

Yes the item on the flywheel is a magnet for the rev. counter, I was able to hide the sensor under the base to keep it neat.
I like testing my engines with the gauges and comparing their performance, you can also test for leaks by stopping the engine and seeing how much air flow there is. I try to allow for .5 litres min for a good piston seal. A bit more info, I like to use ball bearings on the crankshaft as they allow for a small amount  of misalignment and run easy, and the piston rings are Viton O-rings as are the glands. The engine seems to run without any knocks but there was a little squeak which I think might be the O-rings.

Here's the latest picture with the cosmetic changes and tinkering needed, it took quiet a while to blacken all the screws and small parts but I think it looks good now.
Remember I said how my small compressor could not keep up with a larger engine, well I suddenly realised what I need is a bigger compressor so after a little research I found they now make a better version of the one I have with 2 motors and double the output but hardly any bigger, so that was quickly ordered and it's much better.
Now the engine is finished I can think of many improvements but you have to know when to stop.

What a lovely looking engine that is, the detail work and the blackened components have set it off to perfection Geoff.  A classic "engineered" look,  very nice!   Dave
