71/4 gauge LNER A4 much modified from Modelworks kit
« on: October 03, 2023, 04:23:08 PM »
Greetings, at long last I have been able to photograph my A4, "Sir Nigel Gresley" in a realistic location, the first time I have seen loco & tender joined, then my A3 "Flying Fox" also appeared.
I didn't think I could take so many pictures.

Well, the gauge is 7 1/4", as per the title of the thread.

Not sure of the scale, though 7 1/4" gaute often implies a 1/8 scale, that isn't always the case.  So we'll have to let the OP answer that one.

Thank you for your kind remarks, prior to these locos, I have built 14 various scratch built locos of various gauges over many years. The A3 is now 14 years old and is my regular drive at Parklands Railway, Norfolk, UK.  The A4 I have just completed, and sandwiched in between is a 71/4 Britannia 70014 Iron Duke.  All three were extensively modified Modelworks kits, and I swear I will never touch another one.
They are to 71/4 gauge, 1.54 in to the foot.
All have been extensively reworked, A4 and Iron Duke have ball valve regulators, and the A3 will have one soon also.  the A4 sports a corridor tender, which involves widening the tender tank 3/4 of an inch & build a new corridor roof in the new tank top, as well as new tank ends.  Just one of many jobs, many involving replacing or remodelling supplied parts.  I think I am correct in saying that no part was used as supplied.
I am finding that these big engines are hard to move about, which is why I have decided to sell the A4, unsteamed, and build something a little easier to move.
Thank you for all your interest.
Regards Brian Baker
