Achim,

I had quite a number some years ago, in all the kit I got with my Myford. Rather strangely marked as   " .308 28 " ??
I had no idea what that meant. No mention of BSP although I should have guessed with the 28 bit.  :noidea:
Then I was told .308 inches is the nominal OD of 1/16" tube and they were  ( possibly ) used on Amal carburettors or parts thereof. So I gave them away, not having any use for them.

Guys....I have seen G 1/16" [parallel] and R 1/16" [taper] BSP thread form listed in tables and books, however after in a :old: lifetime of industrial hydraulic engineering ...have never seen a 1/16" BSP threaded component

These are obviously more like hens teeth than that other famous fitting that was reportedly tapped G 5/8" BSP......

Whenever I see these threads on the American models 1/16 NPT I just substitute a ME thread and use an easily obtained matching pipe size such as 3/16 x 40 and 3/16" pipe. 1/4 x 40 with 1/4 pipe and 5/16 x 32 with 5/16 pipe then 1/8" BSP

If in Germany then a fine pitch M8 would do the job and allow any of the continental model fittings to be used which aslo use the metric fine threads

Hi Jason, I agree with you. In the modern model engineering world a M8x1 mm would be the right choise.
But my fellow from the German forum is doing some specific restoration work and that is the reason for looking for this exotic die.

Achim

First supplier I looked at but they start from 1/8" BSP like the others.

http://www.tracytools.com/taps-and-dies/BSP-taps-dies

Maybe Ian means these:

http://www.tracytools.com/taps-and-dies/whitform-taps-dies?product_id=1070

Just a few thous. oversize, 0.312 in. rather than 0.308 in.

But 28 TPI and Whitworth Form like BSP

Need to be pretty sharp to notice the difference.

Hi Achim, Dave,

I had not identified a specific tap/die from Tracytools but was aware they kept a large range.

Why not give them call

Cheers

Ian
