Hello from Texas
« on: July 20, 2012, 02:06:42 PM »
Hi All,
I am a retired Marine Engineer. I mostly worked the slow speed diesel ships but I was also on a few steam ships. The reason I liked slow speed diesel is it is the closest thing to the old triple expansion engines I had a chance to work on. High pressure turbines are simply a big box connected to another even bigger box with the reduction gear.

My main focus as a model engineer has been Shay locomotives. A Shay is a marine engine that got lost in the woods. I located the original drawings and drew a bunch of them in Cad. Now I am attempting to learn enough model engineering to make a few Shays.

Welcome on board Dan  :)

Looking forward to more progress on your Shay  ;)

Kind regards, Arnold
Building an engine takes Patience, Planning, Preparation and Machining.
Procrastination is nearly the same, but it precludes machining.
Thus, an engine will only be built once the procrastination stops and the machining begins!
