Time to remember..
« on: September 01, 2012, 02:34:32 PM »
that day in September.
I know it is a bit early but Sept 11 tends to sneak up on me most years. Life happens and it is hard to believe that the anniversary of  day that changed so many things is upon us once again . I pass by a couple of memorials every day . and here are the pics.

I remember it well I found myself on active duty military retroactive to 6AM that morning.

All the stripes of the flag are actually the names of those who died on 9/11.

......both.   Combat Veteran Vietnam....Purple heart....Bronze Star.....Marine combat medic.  About he nicest guy you ever met.
He lost both family and friends.....I pitch in and help every year.    This year his health is not so good, so I'll be going over tomorrow and checking in.  Usually there is about 30 people who show up 9/11 to pitch in, and amzingly...it only takes about an hour to put up.

Most who show up are Blue Star or Gold Star parents.   I can't even begin to imagine.

I was over to George's this evening to help set up the flags.  George is in the hospital, but that didn't slow anything down...  About 40 people showed up.   It went quick
....felt good too....George will be proud.

i remember watching tv just after it happened and thought is orsen wells up to his old tricks (war of the worlds) but alas it was not fiction.
i will stop work tomorrow and say a prayer for all the ones that were lost on that fatefully day.

A time to remember all the victims of this appalling crime.

Quote from: wiki
The terrorist September 11 attacks by Al-Qaeda resulted in almost 3,000 immediate (attack time) deaths, including the 19 hijackers and 2,977 victims.[1] 372 foreign nationals (excluding the 19 perpetrators) perished in the attacks, representing just over 12% of the total. The immediate deaths include 246 victims on the four planes (from which there were no survivors), 2,606 in New York City in the World Trade Center and on the ground, and 125 at the Pentagon.[2][3] About 292 people were killed at street level by burning debris and falling bodies of those who had jumped from the World Trade Center's windows. All the deaths in the attacks were civilians except for 55 military personnel killed at the Pentagon.[4] Some immediate victims were not added to the list until years later.

More than 90 countries lost citizens in the attacks on the World Trade Center.[5] The foreign countries with the highest losses are the United Kingdom (including the British overseas territory of Bermuda) with 67, the Dominican Republic with 47, and India with 41.

9/11 isn't really memorialised over here (although it will be in the news, I suspect), but I would imagine any Brit would remember exactly where he/she was & what they were doing as the news broke.
Cheers,
Ade

2977 to be exact....excluding the suffering of the first responders who have become ill from the dust since that sad day.....1 for every flag shown.

The flag panel represents every 2977 people.

I remember MANY of those  little "flags" in the front windows of houses during WWII. Fortunately
all my family had only blue ones.

The man who started this "tradition of remembrance" passed this week.   He was a good man, whom I had a great deal of respect for.   Very sad.
The tradition will continue with the help of his wife, and many friends.

Being a night Owl, I was watching TV after midnight on the 12th (here in NZ), and the program suddenly switched over to New York, I couldn't believe what I was seeing,  I watched through most of the night/morning.
