Vickie Engine Finished
« on: July 03, 2016, 10:11:18 PM »
Well  I am calling this one done though I will probably find a few things to tweak with a little more run time.  I have added some final pictures below. I am uploading another video to youtube also and will link to that once the upload finishes.

Many thanks to all of you who followed the build and added both encouragement and suggestions along the way.

Now its back to completing the P&W build...fortunately the flywheel spokes on those flywheels are cast in :)

Absolutely Gorgeous Bill       Very well done indeed. I'm afraid mine is still in a tray of raw parts and will likely be there for a while.

Thanks Tom, but take heart. I started this one maybe 7-8 years ago. Put it down on numerous occasions to work on other engines, and only recently got back to it. Jerry did a very nice design on this one and I am happy to have completed it now. It's one of those projects where there is more to it, than appears when seeing the finished engine .

Very, very nice Bill.  I particularly like the paint-filled details; they add a nice finishing touch.
Great runner too!

Thanks Charlie, just some of the many details Jerry included in his design, but it does add to the Victorian theme I think.

Bill,

As I said in your build thread, it's a great running engine! Your pictures in this thread do a wonderful job of displaying just how nice the craftsmanship is on your Vickie!

A beautiful engine and a very smooth runner. The finish is superb. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride.

Was it all done on the Sherlines except for the flywheel?

Thanks.

Jo, I'd be willing to bet that if Miss Vickie was a casting kit, she would be done and dusted by now, and living in a part of your house that wasn't full of machines.

Hugh, as you noted, with the exception of turning the flywheel blank, everything else was done on the Sherlines.

Don, Terry, Zee, Vince and Bruce...many thanks for having a look.  Bruce, I find Stirlings fascinating if only from the physics perspective...just how fast an enclosed volume of air can be heated and cooled enough to make them go round. They can be finiky, but good close tolerances are the key and absolute minimal friction. A quart of denatured alcohol and your good to go for many hours of fun. This is my fifth one, all are from Jerry's plans, but each one different.

I don't know which is worse,  the heat or the humidity.  We call this weather you can wear.  A lot of terrible storms passed thru or near here :facepalm2:. So,  finishing the P&W is next  (almost done) what's next Professor?

Cletus, after the P&W, it's back to the 1903 Wright engine, though I will be doing some work on the little brother casting set too. The Wright engine is a long term project.

I don't know sometimes Southwestern Idaho has perfect weather and it is pretty darn nice; right now it is 78 degrees and 21%. Pretty nice weather for July! Just don't ask me about it in January. >:(

I sure hope not; we're lucky to get 3 to 4 inches at a time in the city usually less; I think I shoveled once or twice last winter and it was only a skiff. Single digit temps are not uncommon though.

Over here it varies a lot, lot of small snows, occasional multi foot storm usually off the Great Lakes.

One of the best-looking engines I have seen. I love the contrast between the contemporary lines of the engine and the neo-classical support columns.

The photos are superbly composed too.
