Greetings from Bob,

I have a Sherline lathe and CNC mill, just completed my first wobbler, it's tiny only 1 1/4" tall with a 3/4" flywheel, almost pissed myself when it ran.  Mostly interested in learning techniques for using Sherline equipment to make small engines.  Very interested in design concepts, such as matching proper flywheel size to bore and stroke, most efficient placement and size of ports on a wobbler, how much clearance to leave between top of piston and head, etc.  Would very much like to design my own engines using CAD, but need to learn more about proper design elements for an efficient running engine.

You might want to check out Elmer's engines, if you haven't already:  http://www.john-tom.com/html/ElmersEngines.html  Lots of good info there. I'm betting that by studying his designs that some common denominators, of engine design, would start to stand out.

The easiest way to do tiny engines is build one then scale it down.  I did Elmer's Tiny at full scale which is around the size of your engine.  Then I did one at 1/2 scale and finally did one at 1/4 scale.  The 1/4 scale is smaller then an M&M candy. 

To go small, the techniques are the same.  The challenge is in the workholding (and if you can keep your sanity).
