New Toy Maybe
« on: June 14, 2016, 02:34:33 AM »
Hi Guys
I bought a new Toy the other day on EBAY, a WMD20 that has been converted to CNC.
I don't know anything about CNC or Mach3 but I was the only bidder and it was within a couple of hours drive.
It took me a couple of days to get it running but seems real good now.
I put a Video on Utube of  my very first attempt at running Gcode, just after getting the Bloody thing to do more then Beep at me.

Hi Dave
Utube seems to have changed since I last visited the site and not for the better so I will try loading the Video to Photobucket and see how that goes.
My son seems to have inherited my Utube account anyway.

I was so Happy to get it to work I grabbed the Camera.
Notice the big hunk of wood I used as a throw away work surface.

Hi Pete,

Congratulations with your new toy, I have a similar milling machine - WMD25 - but no CNC on mine. I am satisfied with mine, you'll have a lot of fun in the coming months.

Hi Pete

That is essentially the same machine as mine but with a different CNC setup

I would loose the Y handle before you get hooked up on it.

What feed speed were you using?

I would also caution running near top speeds without extra cooling on the motor housing. The motor gets hot real fast.

Hi Guys
The Y and Z handles  were taken off once I got the machine running, I had used them to position the axis when fitting the milling Head.
The Cad files were automatically generated by Cambam free edition just to get it working and the only editing I did to the Gcode was add a minus sign to the cut depth.
Thanks Bruedney for the Tip on overheating the motor, there is much for me to learn about my new Toy.
