Gear Tooth Chart
« on: June 11, 2016, 12:55:19 AM »
Gear tooth gauges are available but are extremely expensive, like $100 for a set. Can't afford that nor do I need
those. Silly prices for some bits of stamped sheet metal!

Where can I get a printed, or printable, gear tooth chart I can use to identify various gear pitches? I've been all over Google with no joy. I just need something I can hold a gear up to and identify what the pitch is.

Anyone?

Check Ebay....I just did, and I found prices from 4 dollars to 200 dollars......somewhere in there is one you can stand to pay for....

Why not use the formula?

DP = (N+2)/OD

Doesn't tell you the pressure angle Marv....though you can usually "Guess"

Pete's original post says,

"Where can I get a printed, or printable, gear tooth chart I can use to identify various gear PITCHES?"  (Emphasis mine.)

If he wants pressure angle, he can use the program on my page (GEARPA).  Several machinists have used it and given me favorable reports.

As usual Marv you are quite correct...however, having the gage set lets you interrogate the gear in question where ever you may be....and sometimes that doesn't include a computer with your program on it....

Well, thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking for a 'profile chart' that I can hold up to a gear and determine its' pitch.
Google is rife with charts but none provide scale information so they can't be printed accurately. Useless!!

I'll continue to look and I suspect I'll contact some gear companies in the hope one can provide a printed, or print-able, chart. Maybe in a catalog.

Thanks,
Pete
