No more round parts for the mill so the Blake's illness isn't an issue. I do think I remember how to use a DTI for centering.  :lolb:

Can't believe I forgot to thank Bruce for making his drawings of the valve rocker available to me.
The "missing" width dimension was giving me fits. I spent way to much time in Inventor trying to calculate the part width.

Lots of good looking parts there Stan!

I have never seen a turret kit like that; where did you come across it? I have only seen the bare turrets and you are left to make all the tooling for it.

Bummer on the Blake; I'm sure Long Island will fix you up; or happily sell you a shiny new one.  :lolb:

Dave
The kit was from Enco. The quality is very good. Better than the usual Asian product.

Yeah, but then you have to crane your neck to see around back

I don't think that's true.  Given a truly round workpiece, if the DTI readings left, right and front are the same the back reading MUST match.

True enough Marv, but I still check the back too. A little mirror can help too.

Don't trust the laws of geometry, eh?  Ah well, it took me a while too to grok onto this.

Dental inspection mirrors are really useful around the shop.  Buy the cheap plastic ones so when it gets caught by the rougher mill you won't feel so bad.  DAMHIKT.

These...

are pricey but I love the idea of a mirror with a built-in light.  I recently bought an extendable magnet retrieval tool that has a built-in LED light and I love it.  It's great for retrieving parts that fall under the bench and hide in the shadows.

I have an 8"x10" plexi mirror. Glued magnets to the back. Grabs onto the Bridgeport column.
That said, the "3 points equal" technique is intriguing.
I'm just going to avoid cylindrical parts until the Blake comes home.

Marv, thanks, once again, for pointing out what should have been obvious. I'm not sure how long it would of taken me to make that little discovery on my own.  Now, that said, I think I may be like Bill and have a hard time letting go of that 4th measurement (the back).

I will say I use the three point method to get close, but once those three are reading the same I do check that 4th back quadrant. It's not the geometry i don't trust, more the roundness of the metal.

You just keep checking, Jim.  Who knows, one of these days it will fail to match and you'll have the makings of an instant Abel prize.
