Zee,

In the parlance of the mother country "oiked" means cut off or removed without ceremony and "snitch" in this context means nose.

For anyone from this side of the and it is quite normal use of language but I guess some things got lost in the journey across the pond.

Mike

"Oinked" .................. I guess that's another name for what we had done to our male dog when he was younger!  :naughty: I think he wished we would of kept our "snitch" out of his life.  >:(

Jim

Ouch! Your dog is going to pee on your lathe for that one!

I've never heard "hooter" as a name for a schnozzola (AKA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Durante). Here it has a distinctly different meaning. Well, what do you expect from a place where it's OK to smoke a fag with your bum on the loo ;)

A couple of years ago I bought from Honkers, a circular 30 LED / 5" lens work-light for doing PCB's.
Similar metallic goose-neck with a 2-pin 110V USA type plug.

Oiked off said offending bit and fitted a 13A plug mit 2A fuse and off I went.
All went splendidly until, well, it didn't.
Damn thing did a serious PHTTT  :zap: about 3 inches from my snitch and promptly caught fire ...
I can assure you the plastic case was far from 'self-extinguishing'.
....

Mr. Sexy won't be much use to you with his appendages incinerated.  :-[

Take care ..

Thanks for the warning Dave , there is a lot of Chinese electrical stuff that you have to be very wary of   .

110V & 220V  Not sure that a certain countries manufacturers are aware of or care about the difference.   :LittleDevil:

'Oiked'     General purpose for 'removed' ie 'Oiked the dropped nut out of the crankcase with a bit of bent wire'

'Snitch'     Nose, sticking out bit on front of face, unless you've been in a fight ... a.k.a. snout, conk, hooter, shonk, sneck, schnozzle etc etc.

Well these discombobulations are pretty contrafibulaneous in this hockam. We frequently assuriate these ethells when we're sinking a few chuckas in the local - I assumed everyone did.

220V vs 110V?

LEDs use DC current, so the little "power supply block" is almost invariably a switched-mode regulator rather than a transformer/rectifier (same as your laptop charger, mobile phone charger etc) because it's smaller, lighter, more efficient and cheaper. These regulators operate by monitoring the output voltage and adjusting the switching duty cycle to maintain the desired voltage. As such it's extremely easy to design one that really doesn't care what the input voltage is, as long as it's high enough to develop the required power but not so high that it blows through insulation.  So where the ad says it can take anything from 100-250v AC it probably really means it, like (again) my laptop and phone chargers that work just as effectively on the lower mains voltages in the colonies.

Well if he has trouble with it I'll knock up a translation spreadsheet for him.

The Ikea light is reasonably bright. I'm going to pick one up over the weekend for the Deckel grinder to "augment" the Deckel 40 watt bulb which is next to useless. If I can find it, I'll get out a foot candle meter and make some measurements.
Just noticed that it's 70 lumens.

70 lumens isn't great but since the light is very focused (roughly a 6-8" circle at 12-18") it is good as a small machine light. I noticed that Tom Lipton has one on his Deckel.
For $10, it's quite good.

I have a couple of those too Stan, but have found that I need to replace the rocker switches. They sometimes don't make good contact or something and the light intensity suffers.

You don't want to light up the BBQ  :hellno: Yu'll see all the mossies who tried to share the burgers before you got there  :disappointed:

I always try to think of them as a special garnish or dried on herbs ;)
