I've seen that before Marv.....this guy must have been a drinking budy with Dr. Browning....neat mechanism....I wonder what inspired it?

What I don't understand is the juxtaposition.  I've seen many automatonic singing birds but in decorated boxes reminiscent of jewelry boxes.  What mental connection inspired the craftsman to combine singing mechanical birds with pistols and then feminize the pistols with over the top jewels  and carved panels?  What kind of hallucinogens did they have in the nineteenth century?
