I have to apologize
« on: February 17, 2016, 03:37:16 AM »
I posted a reply to a thread this evening and discovered that it was my first post even though I've been a member since 2012.

I can't believe that I never posted an introduction, so here it is.

My name is Steve Fox and I dabble in metal working and woodworking as well as photography, electronics and too many other things to list.  I've built several small engines over the years, but nothing lately.  I hope my next project will be the MEM Corliss.  I'm in the planning and collection phase right now.

I am medically retired due to a back injury that impacts my ability to stand for any length of time so I can't use my machinery as often as I would like.  Some days, I just have to be happy dreaming.

Glad to be here.

Belated welcome.  The "community Corliss" is a fine engine as examples by some builds here.  Many of us would agree that half the fun is in planning and collecting ... Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum. I understand about the back and legs ... mine is the same. That's why we like lots of pictures ... so that those of us that can't get into the shop as often as we like, can visit other shops and other projects.

Cheers

Welcome Steve.

I knew a Steve Fox years ago. To rule out the possibility that you could be him, can you verify that you did not attend a large university in Indiana in the late `70s?

Almost right time, wrong place.  Wasn't me, I grew up in Memphis.
Apparently, it's a common name.  There was even another me at my dentist.

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone.

I tried quoting the entry before this one and every time I tried to post it, I got an error.

Welcome Steve, At least one of our community has his machines set low and operates them from chair. We all seem to be getting older... :old:

Enjoy our hobby any way you can.               Cheers               Terry

I tried quoting the entry before this one and every time I tried to post it, I got an error.

Haven't had issues with this. I do one of two things...

1) If I hit the quote button (in the reply you're responding to) before I open the 'Reply' button at the top...then a reply is automatically started with the quote inserted. Set your cursor past the '/quote' and type away. You can also edit the quote by setting your cursor inside the 'quote' and '/quote'.
2) If I hit 'Reply' button at the top and want to insert a quote...you'll see the 'Quote' button will have changed to 'Insert Quote'. If you hit that, it will insert the quote wherever your cursor is. Then the same stuff as '1' applies.

Hope that helps.

Speaking of 'same names'...

When I moved back home for a while we took a rental before buying a house. After buying the house I started getting mail, addressed to me, but it was all odd stuff that I didn't expect. Including notifications of debt.

Turned out the fellow who rented the rental after I did had the same name as me.

It's one thing to find some one with my name (there are a few)...but that was odd.
