Gearing up
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:11:00 AM »
... for my next project, seeing that spring is just (more or less) around the corner.  Been beetling away every spare moment for the last few days on these. They are 40 dp, and, yes, they are a set of change wheels - but for what?

The older I get, the better I was.

How about a hobbing machine? Well I hope you're going to build a hobbing machine, I'd like to see that.

Hmmm...  40dp... Too small for a QC Box for the Myford then...

Great set of gears

At least it sounds like you blokes are also starting to thaw a bit now  :)

Kind regards, Arnold
Building an engine takes Patience, Planning, Preparation and Machining.
Procrastination is nearly the same, but it precludes machining.
Thus, an engine will only be built once the procrastination stops and the machining begins!

Don't have any 48dp cutters but I suspect that 30/15 in 40dp would work out to the same dims - those cutters I have.

So after making those you decided why not make a mini screwcutting lathe?

Nice gears tel :NotWorthy:

Speaking of gears and such what's the state of play with your mates tractor?

At least it sounds like you blokes are also starting to thaw a bit now  :)

Kind regards, Arnold

Don't you believe it, we've had gale force winds, strong rain, hail and that's just our place, not to mention snow in the foothills today with more to come tomorrow. Thank goodness for central heating but soon I'll be lamenting the cost of gas.

Best Regards
Bob

Yes a tractor update would be in order...........traverse carriage gears for a anti-dropbar gun....just traverse gears...not elevation....that takes more.... :mischief: :stir:

I have a similair stash of gear that I am using to select the appropriate gearing down for my Clayton steam lorry.

The rest of them are still spare, so if you have a good idea  :noidea: what I could use them for.

Bob - the (second hand) axle got here yesterday, finally located one in Brisbane. Looks to be in good nick but I haven't had a chance to give it a thorough going over yet. Been held up with it because the MF65's had two different axles over the course of manufacture and we had to be sure of getting the correct one.

Dave, dunno about 'thaw' but we are marginally less frozen - apart from the wild storms, AND there are even a couple of daffys out in my yard, that's gotta be a good sign. Drop b'ars are still hibernating tho - no need for the HA yet!

You can never have too many gears on hand Jo, especially if you twiget around with workshop equipment.

A clue - this non lathe gadget, if it pans out OK, will be for making certain components for IC engines.
