The price and quality might go hand in hand here - but you solved the problem  :cartwheel:

Hope to see more now you're back on track  :)

Hi

Yes Admiral, in the end the problem was solved in less than an hour

The rolls have been zinc plated and the gears have been blacked

Hi

The cross bar is made from ally. It is fixed to the 2 end plates with an 8mm and a 6mm countersunk cap head in each end.
Here the cross bar is being drilled for the 8mm

Bolted to one end and using one of the rolls to align it the other end is marked with a transfer punch

Then drilled and tapped for the 6mm

All the parts assembled

A temporary stub is turned from ally for the gear and drilled 6mm

It is used to marked its position with a transfer punch

I had hoped to get more done today but No. 2 grand daughter turned up, she's 3 1/2, and insisted we play :)

Cheers

Hi

Turn a boss for the gear, drill 6mm and counter bore

using a transfer punch to mark the position

The handle is made by drilling out a piece of steel to 20mm. I forgot to take a photo of a previous operation. The steel piece is centred under the mill then moved over 10mm. It is then drilled through with a 3/16 drill, this is a start for the keyway which is then finished by hand with a file.

The handle is made from some 3/16  x  1 1/2 flat steel bar. one end is chain drilled to remove a semi circle.

I then mig welded the 2 parts together. I'm new to the dark art of mig welding so it's not pretty.

The handle is made from a piece of ally bar with a bit of loose fitting chrome tube

I couldn't resist trying it out with a bit of 3mm  x  25mm ally

There is still some more to do but it works  :whoohoo:

Cheers

Rich

Yes but it rolls better with a steel tyre around the outside ;)

If you do want to try rolling the wood then the plated rolls are a good idea as the wood will need to be steamed and that would make any bare steel rusty :-[

Hi

Complete, finished.  :whoohoo:

The handle painted, the steel gear bosses zinc plated, a drop of oil here and there and it works.

Excellent work, Rich! Pinch rolls like that, only a bit longer, have been on my list for some time. Too long! Your build has encouraged me to get going on them!

Hi

Thanks Pete

Kerrin, no production I'm afraid, building one set was enough

Cheers
