London MEX 2016

Well dispite the doom, gloom and misinformation being put out by some I had a good day at the show. Plenty of completed engines to see also many locos and watercraft if that is your thing.

As I have some self control I only bought two castings which I had intended to look for. Also a few bits of metal of known parentage and without that brown coating that has to be removed beforehand. Some items of tooling also seem to find their way into my two carrier bags as well as some paint and very nice metric nuts.




This is a small selection of the models on display, I concentrated on IC and stationary steam subjects but I doubt if that is 10% of all the models there, it's just that the railroad and watercraft don't do it for me. I was not disappointed hope you won't be.

I prefer my castings to be delivered like it was today (Thank you David it has been having the necessary fondling so that it knows it is loved).

And my bits of metal with that brown protective coating are all BMS that came from the local Technical College when they closed down the machine shops, they were that horrible price of "free take all you want" but I did have to pay £50 for the Union cutter grinder and £300 for a brand new fully equipped Harrison M300 that someone stole from me

Didn't that one come up for auction a couple of years ago?  The builder seemed to like the polished/as cast look.

Thats because he is an Engine Boy not a Pump Boy

Graham I'm not sure about the Gardners history but its quite nice to see some of the engines in the bare metal. I also posted the photos on ME Forum and an ex Gardner employee enquired about it here

I flew over from the midlands of Ireland for the day yesterday. I had never been before, and like Jason, Rail and marine just aren't my thing. However i really really enjoyed pottering around there, my only regret being the amount of spending money i had, and the restrictions with what might have looked like a weapon getting on the plane last night. Got chatting some really nice folk too.

I also got to squeeze i half a day in the science museum, to which i had also never been, topped off the day really well, worth the 23 hour round trip!
