I also use CCleaner to keep the crap off my computer. It has the option of selecting what cookies you want to keep, such as those for the forums I follow so I don't have to enter my password each visit.
I also modified the hosts file on my windows that blocks most of the popup adds at the yahoo groups I frequent.

Chuck, thanks for the tip I didn't realise that feature was available - typical of me I never fully explore software and generally only use the bare bones. I have a cellphone that could run mission control but I only use it as a phone.
