A new Otto-Langen on the block
« on: January 06, 2016, 01:36:14 PM »
For a few years I had been eyeing the Otto-Langen for a build.  I had a terrible time finding the plans but finally managed to get me hands on the 1/6 scale drawings last year.  For me it was a fairly quick build.  I started around this time last year and have just finished it.
For the Mery build I took a lot of pictures of the process but for this it was pretty straight forward.  The key strange things like the column, I did get shots of the process.
I added another section to my site for the Otto build.  http://www.teqknow.com/Shop/otto.html

I was in contact with the person who made the CAD plans.  He did give me permission to copy and post them, however, he requested his personal info be removed from them.  They are in PDF format.  Does anyone know how a PDF can be modified like that?  I don't want to convert them to some jpg format because they won't scale correctly after that.

Anyhow, here are some pics.

Phil....that is gorgeous and what a fine runner too!! This is such a unique and interesting engine and has been on my list for a while now.  As for the pdf plans, if these are the same ones I think you had emailed to me shortly after Cabin Fever last year, I have been able to remove the name of the "Drawn by:" from each drawing and his information from the initial page as well. I can send these to you for your review if you wish and then you can post them. All it takes is the full version of Adobe Acrobat which allows editing of .pdf files. Just let me know.

Thanks Bill.  I still need to do a bit more detail work to it but it's ready for Cabin Fever in a couple weeks.

Yes, the drawings are the same ones.  That would be awesome if you could send me a copy.  Thanks.

We'll miss you at C.F. this year!

Phil, I will send them to the email listed in your profile. Please look over them and see if I missed any references to him that need to be removed and let me know if I missed anything. These will be a great addition to the forum so thank you (and him) for the willingness to share them. Give me a minute and they will be on their way.

Phil, that looks really awesome.  It has long been one of my favorites. I have been looking for the plans for this for some time.  So posting them here would really be great.

Just want to point out the existence of a product called PDF24 which allows editing of pdf files and is free. I got it here: https://en.pdf24.org/pdf-creator-download.html

Wow! That is a fascinating engine and mechanism.  I have not seen this before.
Beautiful, well executed model.  I can't wait to see the drawings.

Very nice work Phil!

Thank you for sharing this amazing engine with us.
I purchased a set of plans many years ago from Mr. Lenaz  (sp) and also created a Solid Works model for my own use. Makes me wonder how many times this engine has been 3D modeled using Emmett’s drawings.

Does anybody know at this time who if anybody owns the rights to the drawings?

Very Nice engine, I too have it drawn up in CAD to a larger size.

Dave there is a listing for the plans on page 3 of antique engines, I think these are the same as you refer to.

Thanks Jason

I wonder if Mr. Schneider is still selling prints; I have mine so I'm not inclined to dig into it but if someone else is looking that may be a good place to start. Emmett was also from Louisiana; maybe Mr. Schneider took over the ownership of the prints from him.

Wow, that's really a unique engine! I've never seen anything like that before.  :headscratch: Now I need to do some studying on that to figure it out. :happyreader:

Very nice looking engine. Great work.  :praise2:

Pete, quite a bit about the Otto in this thread (Dave also about drawing sources)

Maybe the sight of a completed one will prompt Jo to get those castings done, only had my patterns for a year now :ShakeHead:
