Yogi's take on a Duclos Gearless

When I was redrawing the engine in CAD, I wasn't paying attention, and changed the amount of lift on the cam, as I thought it wouldn't need it. Well, what I didn't realize, was that the amount of travel on the push rod was needed to properly turn the indexer. I found out very quickly when I put the parts together though, as the valve was actuated just fine, but the indexer didn't turn over. So back to the drawing board, to make sure the travel is adjusted and the timing is still where it needs to be. It's not a hard of a fix, but my ego did take a hit... 
Anyway, I'm over it now, and a new cam is made.

Sorry about the little hitch yogi but you have resolved it so all is well now. The mechanism looks to be working very smoothly too. I hadn't realized how much of a difference your 1.25 scale would make...that is a pretty fair sized model!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a runner! 
I just couldn't resist to put it together and test it out... It's all temporary. The hall sensor is just taped and clamped in place. The Fuel tank/Carb is borrowed from an other engine. No governor.
It was hard to film with one hand and operating the engine with the other. Also, you can see the mess on my workbench... 

It was just a short test run. It feels good to know that the engine runs before we continue with the governor and fuel tank. Still lot of work to do, stay tune for more...

Bill, I will get started on the governor next. It will also need a fuel tank and a base. So, still a lot of work to do. Lots of parts.

Since we are on the topic:
Traditionally I have been making the base out of wood. But I think I will try out Corian this time. I have never worked with the material. What's you guys' best source for the material? How does it machine? Is it more wood like? Woodworking tools? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

As for the speed of making the engine:
Unfortunately,  the build, and the work in the shop, will come to a screeching halt here in about two days time. Then I have to go back to that shop time interfering thing called work... 
I'm working over seas, in the jungle of Papua New Guinea. The trade off for the four week of work in a crummy oil and gas camp, is the four week off at home.

Corian is expensive, but you can often get offcuts for free from kitchen counter fabricators.  Beautiful Engine!

Great thread you are writing, thanks to share, and a impressive engine too, congrats.
I'm just finishing a gearless engine of my own design, with a ratchet wheel, and also get first pop a few days ago !
lots of mods are required, more easy to do after these first pops.
