Bentley BR2 inlet port castings
« on: December 10, 2015, 05:37:48 PM »
Hi.
Does anyone know of a foundry that has patterns or die casting moulds for the top and bottom inlet ports for the Blackmore Bentley BR2 rotary engine, or has anyone tackled fabricating these components from scratch?
Thanks.

I know I man who had gravity die casting moulds for the elbows and the oil pump but he needs to check where they are. And it is winter so going out there to cast Ali is not ideal for him..... You will need to wait until it gets warm again if you want some :-\

The one person I know who built that engine, made steel molds, and used plaster of paris cores.   He had to pour like 30 to get 9 good ones...or some such ratio as that....

Hi. Jo.
They certainly look workman like, can we have a chat about them.    I'm in Sussex, not far as the crow flies!
Regards.

Hi Bjorn, the BR2 drawings only show one die for the elbows  :noidea:

Mick the owner of the die and ali smelting kit is a member of the forum but not very good at typing so he does a fair bit of lurking so we have to encourage him out of the wood work ::) I will enquire to him about the plaster of Paris mould for the inside as well.

It might be worth doing a batch

:facepalm2: yes of course... Forgot that. The bottom ones could perhaps be machined out of solid with a lot of filing/fettling, but still a lot of work...

now that you mention it, casting a batch or two might be an idea.. I saw someone had bad luck with mentioned castings from hewson (angles way off) and made lost wax castings instead..

Thanks to all for your input and offers of help.    I only posted as a long shot, but things look promising, the idea of doing a batch would sound like a plan as there are bound to be engineers looking for these castings in the future.  Look forward to developments.
Regards.
